Mission Adventures of Dr. Rose and Jenny

November 1, 2006

Dear friends and family,
Hi from Kenya!
We are at 6000 foot elevation and it gets so cold at night and early morning. We feel the cold breezes as we bathe in the outhouse but are so comfortably cared for with  nice buckets of hot water. Food is in great supply.
We are much worn out but God keeps sustaining us and over 1000 have been served in clinic. I planned for a village size of 200 but now I understand why God provided so many supplies. Pastor Brian has been diligent in organizing a great team of medical helpers and they in turn, out of love, have voluntarily done blood pressures and vision screening and greatly increased our ability to reach a large surrounding area of Southern Nandi. Over 600 have been fitted with glasses. Either I counted wrong, or God has multiplied the 100 glasses planned for for this village.
The generator struggle for providing enough power failed after using 5 generators. A line was brought in from a teacher Brian had years ago. One who knows the struggles in the past has done all possible to make these meetings a success. LAST NIGHT as usual we had power fluctuations down the long line of over 500 meters. Power cuts from the supply added to the struggle. Amazingly enough, as microphones went out and light bulbs, we looked at the power strip and all sign of power was gone yet the projector kept on showing the Mathew DVD. The man reading the Swahili word for word MATHEW had to shout it out. The electrician came running with his flashlight and was so shocked he could not believe what he saw. We were connected to the power from heaven.
DENTAL: With trembling hands, I injected the first patient. There were 70 waiting for my services. The syringe gave me trouble as I was not used to how to remove the cap. Finally by God’s help the teeth were coming out and patients were so happy. WE found to have only one day for dental a week made things run better. I don’t know how many teeth we pulled. Sometimes my painful shoulder did not lend the leverage needed but dear friend ANNE Came behind me and reached in and got a couple out for me that I just did not have strength for. She is such a good help . I asked her to come with me to CONGO. She has agreed. She even got passport ready as of this Tuesday. We only lack funds for her air transport with us on Kenya airlines round trip to Lubumbashi. She knows Swahili and has a great way of extending my services. She delivered a baby in her family and they have named the 4.5 pound baby Larose. It was a primep and she sent for me. I was asleep and the guardians at the place I stay would not let her communicate with me. In prayer she completed the delivery fearing a trip to the hospital was needed. Thank God all is well. I wish they had let me in on this joyful delivery. They fear for my strength but ANNE says as she watches me stand up to preach each evening there is an unusual strength imparted that is like that electricity which filled the projector and kept it going when there was no power in the line.
After our email last week God led us to BIBLES and the non Adventist book store even gave us a 10 percent discount so we were about 4-5 dollars each Swahili Bible. I rushed to the bank and my card worked and we paid for 100 Bibles. The number of baptisms is now around 200 in the requests. On Sabbath we will see how many of those actually are there for this. WE are prepared. There were 90 children and maybe 40 more who have filled in commitment cards. I think some are filling in the cards twice. WE are happy to see the Spirit moving on them.
We have had many rainbows. I asked God if He wanted Anne to travel with me and help me and by the evidence of passport papers and the sign He gave to me, we are packing and planning for this. Now we wait for funds.
I had trouble getting my email and only through Jenny’s line today this hotmail address is being successful. We have so many miracles. WE daily rise  early to spend time with Jesus. We have seen Satan very angry over God’s work. Every day we have worship and a health message before starting the patients. From there even, there are people asking for baptism. WOW. I am so happy to have 2 pastors always there to join me in anointing and praying for those with cancer and tumors and AIDS. God is working miracles.
One old man who lives alone had a simple need and we gave him a simple remedy. He jumped out of his chair and began composing music about God blessing us in our medical services He just kept going so I grabbed the digital camera and made a movie for you to see and hear. It reminded me of the 10 lepers that Jesus healed and one came back to say thanks. This man’s thanks will never be forgotten in our hearts. We will bring it home with us and put it on a DVD to share with others.
Children often sit for the 5 o’clock program with Jenny and are still there at 9 or 10 when I finish. All just sit in their chairs like they want more. Some, in fact many of them walk there for meeting from a distance of 2.5 hours. They are not in a hurry to leave even late at night. There is danger from drunks. But these people have not had such blessings. There has never been electricity in the village before. We have it all. We have a car and no one else does. So guess what? There is no gas for miles. We ran out and needed fuel. We prayed for God to put some in and the needle went up a little for us to do our service while someone walked to town for a few liters and carried it up the hill for the car. God provided such a beautiful nice comfortable car for us to carry our 4 big medical bags back and forth for clinic and 3 bags of equipment for meetings daily.
So much more can be said but not time.
I have typed  this in 15 minutes and have more things to do so bye for now. We are packing up in 2 days. We are washing things so we might have them dry in 2 days. Heavy rains and thunder and flooding into meeting sight have impeded our progress but God is winning here and the head man of the village is requesting we stay on 2 more months. We are taking Wednesdays off to communicate with you and fix up details for the next place of meetings.
 Love
From your fellow co-laborers in the Master’s vineyard,

A village called Shyira

Monday, August 11th, 2008

A little boy runs down the mud path shouting “The mazungu has come! The mazungu has come!” All the children run to see. Coming down the road is the white doctor. They run to hug their friend. They all want to carry a bag. Soon they start up the mountain where they plan to build their church. Soon the whole village has gathered to hear the mazungu tell the story of Jesus. Then she gives them the Bible lesson books and colors. When she has finished the children’s choir starts to sing. Much to their delight the white doctor had lovingly made some choir robes for them! They where so exited and they sang louder then ever.

This has not happened yet, but still the children of Shyira are waiting for the mazungu to come. The white doctor is even now sewing the choir robes. She is moving in faith. She dos not have the money for her tickets. Keep praying so that on the 28th of August that little boy will be able to tell everyone “the mazungu has come”
